What's involved

WHAT TO EXPECT IN YOUR TRAINING.

There are three parts to the training, which can be done in as little as 6 months or take as long as you need it to be depending on your current work commitments.

PART ONE – THEORY TEST

It’s the first of 3 tests you will have to pass to qualify as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI).
There are two parts to this test:
Multiple-choice questions – You have 1 hour and 30 minutes to answer 100 multiple-choice questions
Hazard Perception – This consists of 14 video clips. You get points for spotting the developing hazards as soon as they start to happen. We will supply you will all the theory training material you need to get you through both parts of the tests.

PART  TWO – DRIVING ABILITY

It’s the second of the 3 tests you have to pass to qualify as an ADI.
It’s a test of your driving ability. You’ll pass your part two test if you make no more than 6 driving faults (and as with pupils, don’t pick up any Serious or Dangerous faults)

PART  THREE – INSTRUCTOR TEST:

It’s the last of the 3 tests you have to pass to qualify as an ADI.
This is a test of your ability to teach pupils.
The ADI Part 3 exam is divided into three key areas; lesson planning, risk assessment and teaching and learning strategies. The Part 3 exam takes around one hour and is conducted by a specially qualified driving examiner
