IAM RoadSmart’s commissioned survey has shed light on Britain’s hidden drug-drive issue. The survey revealed that nearly 1-in-3 motorists are unaware of the maximum dosages of prescription medication that can impair their driving capabilities. This lack of awareness poses a significant concern regarding road safety and highlights the need for increased education and awareness campaigns about the potential risks of driving under the influence of prescription drugs.

1-in-4 are unlikely to avoid driving after taking over-the-counter medications that warn against using heavy machinery, like antihistamines or cold and flu remedies
1-in-3 motorists are unknowingly driving with dangerous levels of drugs in their system. This concerning statistic reveals that a significant portion of drivers might be at risk of impaired driving.

Why its dangerous

Numerous prescription and over-the-counter medications can negatively impact the ability to drive safely. They may cause drowsiness, affect reaction times, coordination, concentration, or vision, posing potential risks to road safety.
