UK Police Launch Nationwide Campaign on Driver Eyesight Safety

Police forces across the UK have joined a national road-safety campaign reminding motorists of their legal responsibility to meet minimum eyesight standards before getting behind the wheel.

To drive legally, motorists must be able to read a number plate from 20 metres away (around five car lengths), have at least 6/12 vision on the Snellen scale—using glasses or contact lenses if needed—and maintain a safe field of vision. Stricter rules apply to lorry and bus drivers.
