Road Fatalities Fall in 2025
But Rising Serious Injuries Remain a Concern
New Government figures reveal a welcome decline in road fatalities during 2025, but the overall picture for road safety remains troubling, with serious injuries continuing to rise.
According to provisional estimates published by the Department for Transport (DfT) on 28 May, an estimated 1,556 people lost their lives on UK roads in 2025 — a 3% decrease compared with the previous year.
However, the number of people killed or seriously injured (KSIs) increased by 4% to 29,910, highlighting ongoing challenges in improving road safety outcomes. Meanwhile, the total number of casualties across all severity levels remained broadly unchanged at 127,870.
