CarPlay/Android Auto laws UK

carplay

“While the law is clear when it comes to using a phone or other handheld device while driving, the regulations around using a car’s built-in infotainment system are less well defined.”

It is against the law to hold and use a phone, sat nav, tablet, or any handheld device capable of sending or receiving data while driving a vehicle or riding a motorcycle.

This rule also applies if you are stopped at traffic lights, waiting in traffic, supervising a learner driver, or even in a car with a start/stop engine when the vehicle isn’t moving.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, however, provide convenient systems that mirror your smartphone onto your car’s infotainment screen. They let you take calls, read messages, and play music, all while keeping your hands securely on the wheel.
