Introducing a minimum learning period for learner drivers

The Department for Transport (DfT) is inviting feedback on the possible introduction of a minimum waiting period between passing the theory test and taking the practical driving test. This consultation applies to driving tests for a category B licence, the standard licence for driving a car.

We are also seeking views on:

  • introducing a minimum requirement for supervised driving hours
  • establishing a mandatory learning syllabus
  • How any required learning should be delivered

This consultation does not propose a preferred approach, enabling stakeholders to share their views on a range of potential options.
