Nearly half of drivers turn against touchscreen cars
| A new survey has found that nearly half (47%) of UK drivers believe touchscreen dashboards are more distracting than traditional physical buttons while driving.
The research, conducted by Quotezone.co.uk, highlights increasing concerns around the safety of modern in-car technology, as regulators and safety authorities begin taking a closer look at the widespread use of touchscreens. Now considered a standard feature in modern vehicles, touchscreens appeared in an estimated 97% of new cars launched since 2023. Industry analysts predict the average in-car display will grow to 10.6 inches by 2030 — comparable in size to many mid-sized tablet devices. However, Quotezone’s findings suggest motorists may not welcome larger screens. Around one in three (31%) drivers surveyed said current touchscreen displays are already too large. Concerns around touchscreen safety are also being echoed by independent vehicle safety organisations in several regions worldwide, adding to the growing debate over the role of digital interfaces in cars. |
